Jaimini astrology: a method guide
A starting point for chara karakas, arudha and sign-centered techniques, with attention to commentary differences.
Key terms to distinguish
Jaimini Sūtra traditions discuss movable significators (chara karakas), arudha or pada, sign-based relationships, and sign-period methods. A label such as atmakaraka is a rule-derived classification, not a personality diagnosis.
The terse sutra tradition has multiple commentarial readings. A calculator must state its seven- or eight-karaka choice where relevant, tie and node handling, arudha exceptions, and the exact dasha convention before presenting a result as definitive.
Reading with care
Keep the D1 longitude facts separate from Jaimini-specific derived values. Record the source edition and commentary for each rule, then test examples and edge cases, rather than stitching together convenient defaults from different schools.
The chart calculator now derives seven classical chara karakas and twelve whole-sign arudha padas. It excludes Rahu from the karaka order, uses Mars for Scorpio and Saturn for Aquarius, and applies the tenth-from-projection exception. Jaimini dashas and alternative conventions are not calculated.
