Birth chart help and common questions

Practical help for entering birth details, selecting a place, reading Moon sign and Lagna, and understanding chart differences.

Create a chart

Enter the recorded local birth date and clock time, then select the birthplace from the suggestions. Selecting a city uses its published city-center coordinates and IANA timezone. If you know more precise coordinates, choose the manual option and enter latitude, longitude, and timezone together.

The place catalog is bundled with the site and searched in your browser. No search query or birth detail is sent to a geocoding service. A city-center coordinate may still be several kilometres from the actual birthplace.

If the birth time is uncertain

This calculator accepts an exact recorded time. It does not calculate a range or silently substitute noon. A rounded time can change Lagna, whole-sign houses, and fine divisional placements. If you do not know the time, do not treat time-dependent results as confirmed.

The Moon moves through the zodiac during the day. Even Janma Rashi or Janma Nakshatra can need a time check when the Moon is near a boundary.

What the main labels mean

Janma Rashi is the Moon’s nirayana sign at birth. Surya Rashi is the Sun’s nirayana sign. Lagna is the sign rising at the birth time and place. They are three distinct chart placements.

North Indian and South Indian views show the same chart data with different layouts. The placement table gives the sign, degree within that sign, whole-sign house, nakshatra, and pada so the result is not conveyed by a drawing alone.

Why another chart may differ

First compare the birth date, local clock time, city coordinates, historical timezone, ayanamsa, node type, and house method. Kalika uses an approximate Lahiri-style offset and mean nodes with whole-sign houses. A small method difference can change a sign or nakshatra label near its boundary.

Open the calculation details under the result and review the full conventions on the methods page before comparing individual placements.
